The tie-breakersThe drone show only happens over Gwangalli. Free, every Saturday, about 15 minutes, themes rotating weekly. If your trip includes a Saturday night, sleeping where it flies turns the city's best free event into your balcony entertainment — no metro, no crowd logistics. Times shift seasonally; check before you plan dinner around it.
Haeundae owns the shoulder season. Its 2026 swim season runs 26 June–15 September, two weeks past Gwangalli's 31 August close. Early-September trips that want actual swimming lean Haeundae.
Neither is the budget answer. If the nightly rate is the deciding variable, the honest move is Seomyeon — around ₩100,000 (~$70) at the Line 1+2 crossroads, 25–40 minutes from both beaches. And whichever beach wins, the split-stay play — two nights east, one night west in Nampo — still applies. What fails is booking Haeundae for the name and then trying to 'do' the west side daily: that's two hours of metro every day of your trip.
